August 16 -22

August 16:

Last nigh was a better night of sleep.

August 17:

When Malachi is ready to get down he fidgets as if to say, “Put me down!!”

August 18:

Today Mommy turned on the television and let Malachi watch Blue’s Clues.  He laughed at the show.  Mommy does not intend to raise Malachi in front of the T.V.

Malachi has “squishy” fingers.  He gets his hands summer wet from his saliva and then squishes them between his gums, which in turn makes a squeaking sound.

August 19:

When Malachi has had enough milk he pushes away from Mommy so he can get comfortable to go to sleep.  Mommy picks him up and lays him across her on his tummy and he pulls his legs up.  Mommy says he has “froggy legs.”

Malachi laughs when he hears Korean announcers.  They speak very fast and in a different, exaggerated pitch.

August 20:

Malachi was upset and fussy all afternoon.  He only got five hours sleep last night!!

August 21:

Malachi did not feel good yesterday or this evening.

August 22:

Today Malachi was in his Exersaucer and discovered himself in the mirror.  He kept looking at himself and making faces and then laughing at himself.

August 23 - 29

August 23:

Malachi is enjoying his Exersaucer.  Mommy had to put a receiving blanket across the crotch of the seat because Malachi’s legs were getting red as was his bottom.

August 24:

On March 7, Mommy wrote the following:

Mommy has noticed a bump over Malachi’s right eye.  It is purplish in color and only noticeable at night when the lights are low and there are shadows.  Mommy looked it up in “What to Expect the First Year” and she thinks it is a Cavernous Hemangioma.

As of today, he still has that spot.  We shall see...

August 25:

Malachi sat up today!!  We were in the living room with Aunt Allison and Mer and he fell back.  Mommy did not know how bad it hurt but she saw his little head bounce.  Our floors are cement!!  He cried so hard.  Mommy will have to pad the floor so Malachi does not feel that kind of pain again!!  Mommy cried a little too.

August 26:

Malachi clapped today for the first time while he and mommy were doing a diaper change on the bed!!

Malachi held mommy’s hand and pulled himself up to a seated position.  What a big, strong, boy!!

Malachi grabbed his bottle and put it to his mouth.

Today mommy padded the living room.  She covered the floor with blankets and yo’s.  A yo is a thick pad that Korean’s sleep on.  She wants to make sure Malachi does fall and hit his head on the cement floor again.

This was a big day for us!!

August 27:

Malachi sits in his bed and peeks over the bumper pad at mommy and daddy when he wakes up in the morning.  His bed is still in our room at the foot of our bed.

We still sleep with our heads at the foot of the bed so we can be near Malachi.

August 28:

Today mommy read in her What to Expect the First Year book that gifted children do not sleep well at night.  She thinks Malachi is definitely gifted!!

August 29:

Malachi has discovered the dome light in the car and even if he is crying he stops when it comes on and watches it.

August 30 - September 5

August 30:

It is so cute to see Malachi sit up either in the floor or on the bed.  Mommy is extra careful to help Malachi stay in his boundaries and not fall off of the bed.

August 31:

Malachi went to bed at 10:15 p.m. last night and slept better.  He also went to bed with no light.

Mommy put higher bumper pads on Malachi’s bed because he keeps hitting his little head when he falls over.

Malachi is pretty good at catching himself with his elbow and hand when he starts to fall over but when he does not catch himself it is good to have the bumper pad when he is in bed.

September 1:

Mommy has an Elmo video for Malachi.  When he saw Elmo and the baby he laughed.  Malachi really likes babies.

September 2:

Malachi turned his leg outward when he was sitting in the floor.  Those little legs have a lot to learn about going everywhere.

September 3:

Malachi laughed and laughed at mommy today.  It is a circle, mommy laughs at Malachi and he laughs at mommy and them mommy laughs at Malachi and so on.

September 4:

Malachi almost crawled today.  He did crawl a little on the bed.

Malachi’s gums are really bothering him.

September 5:

Malachi got up on his knees today!!  It will not be long and he will be off and running!!

Someone little craweled into his Exersaucer and could not figure out how to get out!!

September 6 - 12

September 6:

Malachi likes to take hold of the phone cord.  We will have to put it out of reach.  The phone card does not make a good chewy!!

September 7:

Today Malachi was sitting by the sofa and pulled up to the sitting position!!

September 8:

When will Malachi’s top teeth get here!!  We keep waiting and waiting.  He has had his bottom ones for a while now.

September 9:

Malachi does not like to get his diaper changed, his face washed or to have his face washed!!  He is such a boy!!

September 10:

Malachi is very good to tell us all about it when he is upset!!

September 11:

Malachi is crawling!!

September 12:

Malachi is still wearing his 3-6 month pants!!  Are his legs going to be short?

September 13 - 19:

September 13:

Today Malachi pulled the phone off of the table.  We have to remember to put it out of his reach!!

September 14:

Sometimes Malachi is a little fussy when he wakes up.

September 15:

Malachi has to go to bed at 9:00 p.m.  Any earlier than 9:00 p.m. and he is not tired enough, any later and he is restless because he is too tired.

September 16:

Malachi is standing up regularly now but he is still shaky.

September 17:

Malachi is still fascinated with the dome light.

September 18:

Malachi now “walks” along the sofa around to the armchair and then to the high chair which sits next to the chair.

September 19:

Malachi tries to lift his leg up to get onto the sofa.  He wants the books that are sitting on the back.

Last night we thought Malachi had insomnia and so we got up and turned on the lights but that did not help.  It turns out he was hungry for some “solids.”

September 20 - 26

September 20:

Malachi’s new thing is “growling.”

When Malachi gets tired of standing he plops down where ever he is.

September 21:

Today Mommy moved Malachi’s bed into his own room.  This made mommy sad but she and daddy feel that he and they will sleep better.  Mommy wonders when these “milestones” will stop and when she will not feel sad when they do happen.  Mommy remembers how sad grandma was when Uncle James graduated from high school so she is thinking it is just a part of life.

September 22:

Malachi slept pretty well last night.

Malachi fell asleep in the rocker when mommy was giving him his bottle for his sleepy time.

September 23:

Mommy thinks Malachi is gifted, at least she tells him he is.  He is definitely very smart and bright.

September 24:

Malachi is so grown up that he now needs a bigger car seat.  This is another milestone that makes mommy sad.  Life goes on and mommy is sentimental.

September 25:

Malachi is ambidextrous.  Malachi generally favors his left hand but does many things with his right hand.

Malachi also sleeps toward his left side.

Daddy is so happy to have a lefthander.

September 26:

Malachi is now able to put himself to sleep in the car without the help of a bottle or mommy.  Malachi is getting so grown up!!

I really do not feed myself yet!!
